Events

Using the BSD events calendar

The BSD uses Live Whale, UChicago's campus events system, for listings of academic seminars, lectures, gatherings, and other campus events. You can view the BSD calendar here, or add these events to your personal calendar to stay up to date on the latest schedule.

Submitting events

Users can now submit events to the main BSD calendar by filling out the form at the following page (CNET login required):

https://events.uchicago.edu/submit/

Under “Submit to this calendar,” select “BSD” from the dropdown list. Events will be moderated and approved within 3-5 business days.

Subscribing to calendar events

Outlook calendars

If you are on a Windows machine, you can also do this directly in Outlook. Go to your calendar, then click the Add Calendar button from the toolbar (near the middle). Select From Internet and paste the following link:

webcal://events.uchicago.edu/live/ical/events/group/BSD

Outlook also supports web calendar subscriptions on their web app (help page available here)

Subscribe to a calendar:

  1. Sign into Outlook on the web. (For university/BSD it is this address, https://outlook.office.com/mail/)
  2. At the bottom of the navigation pane, click the Calendar icon.
  3. On the toolbar, click Add calendar.
  4. Click From Internet, and in the Link to the calendar box, type or copy and paste the web address of the calendar. (note, in O365 this has changed to “subscribe from web” in the sidebar of the add calendar pop-up)
  5. In the Calendar name box, enter a name for the linked calendar. (you can also customize the color and icon for the calendar at this step)
  6. Click Save.

All events should be added instantly to the new calendar. (According to the help page, it can take up to 24 hours for changes to populate to a web calendar)

Google calendars

For Google calendars, their official help page says it may take up to 12 hours to populate changes to the calendar.

  1. On your computer, open Google Calendar.
  2. On the left, next to "Other calendars," click Add +> From URL.
  3. Enter the calendar's address.
  4. Click Add calendar. The calendar appears on the left, under "Other calendars."

Tip: It might take up to 12 hours for changes to show in your Google Calendar.

Customized Feeds

For all BSD events, the iCal subscription link is:

webcal://events.uchicago.edu/live/ical/events/group/BSD

You can use LiveWhale’s feed builder to generate your own feeds customized to whatever combination of calendar groups and audiences you want to see. Go to:

https://events.uchicago.edu/feed_builder/

Select different Event types, Calendar groups, Audiences, and Locations from the left side and the feed URL will generate in the “your customized feed” box.
