Anna McCormick, DO, is a pediatric critical care specialist at the University of Chicago's Comer Children’s Hospital, where she provides expert care to critically ill infants and children in both the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the Pediatric Sedation Service.
Dr. McCormick’s academic and clinical work is grounded in the use of simulation to advance pediatric critical care. She is deeply committed to improving patient outcomes through innovative, simulation-based education and training. By designing and facilitating high-impact simulations, she helps trainees and interprofessional teams develop the technical skills, clinical knowledge, and communication strategies essential for success in high-acuity environments.
As a passionate educator, Dr. McCormick is committed to cultivating a culture of inquiry, psychological safety, and constructive, growth-oriented feedback. She integrates simulation and debriefing into training to promote resilience, systems thinking, and effective collaboration. She sees simulation not only as a means for individual skill development, but also as a powerful tool to strengthen team dynamics, surface latent safety threats, and enhance overall system performance.
Dr. McCormick’s scholarly work focuses on leveraging simulation to drive quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical excellence. Her current interests include developing and applying validated assessment tools for clinical competency, with a particular focus on airway and respiratory emergency preparedness. She collaborates across disciplines to embed simulation into institutional practices, aiming to build a resilient, high-performing healthcare workforce.
