Arshiya A. Baig, MD, MPH, FACP is Professor in the Department of Medicine. She is a general internist and provides care for adult patients in the outpatient and inpatient setting. Dr. Baig is also an accomplished health services researcher. Her main research interest is in the use of partnered research approaches and implementation science to improve diabetes care and outcomes with a focus on Latino populations. Dr. Baig was also a U.S. Fulbright Scholar in Colombia, South America, where she gave seminars on community-based research methods and conducted research in intimate partner violence.
Dr. Baig has won awards for her community service and research, including the Chicago Foundation for Women “Breaking Barriers in Health and Wellness” Award, the Taller de Jose “Companion Award,” the University of Chicago Faculty Award for Distinguished Community Service and Advocacy, the Midwest Society of General Internal Medicine Award for Community Service and Advocacy, and University of Chicago Department of Medicine Researcher of the Year. She has been the President of the Midwest Society of General Internal Medicine. Dr. Baig has been an editorial board member for the Journal of General Internal Medicine and an invited grant reviewer at National Institutes of Health.
A gifted medical educator, Dr. Baig has been honored as a Fellow of the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators and received the Department of Medicine Clinical Teacher of the Year. She also co-directs the Scholarship and Discovery Program at the Pritzker School of Medicine which provides training and support for medical students to complete a mentored research project.
