Dr. Patrick Cunningham is a nephrologist with a special interest in autoimmune and glomerular kidney diseases, as well as kidney transplantation. This includes kidney conditions such as membranous nephropathy, focal segmental glomerular sclerosis, lupus nephritis, and IgA nephropathy. These conditions all highlight the importance of the immune system in kidney health and disease. In the care of these patients, Dr. Cunningham has over 20 years of experience in performing hundreds of kidney biopsies. He has an extensive background in basic science research in acute kidney injury and glomerular diseases, with over 40 peer-reviewed publications. He also has done clinical research and speaking on the importance of APOL1-associated kidney disease and its influence on blood pressure.
Additionally, Dr. Cunningham has an interest in point of care ultrasound and is a member of POCUN (Point of Care Ultrasound in Nephrology). He leads educational efforts to train others to use ultrasound to evaluate kidney disease and hemodynamics.
Dr. Cunningham is a devoted and award-winning teacher and has lectured extensively on topics of acute kidney injury, genetic kidney conditions, glomerular kidney diseases, transplantation, and renal ultrasound.
