Dr. Press is an Internal Medicine and Pediatrics physician and researcher focused on improving the quality of care delivered to patients with chronic disease across health, home, and community settings. Dr. Press received her medical degree and Master of Public Health in health management and policy degree at the University of Michigan. She completed her internal medicine and pediatrics residency training and health services research fellowship training at the University of Chicago. Dr. Press is a Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics with a primary appointment in the Department of Medicine Section of General Internal Medicine, and with secondary appointments in the Department of Medicine Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care and the Department of Pediatrics Section of Academic Pediatrics. Dr. Press is the Medical Director of the Care Transitions Clinic, Director of the COPD Transitions of Care Program, and serves as an Associate Chief of GIM for Faculty Development. Dr. Press is the Associate Director of the Respiratory T32, Co-Director of the Pritzker School of Medicine's Summer Research Program, and Director of the Health Systems Science Track of the Masters in Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Press' research program has been funded nearly continuously for over a decade through local, foundation, and federal funding. Her research focuses on patient and system level interventions to improve chronic lung disease management, particularly hospital to home care transitions and addressing patient self-management barriers including health literacy and technology literacy and access. Dr. Press is a dedicated mentor with dozens of mentees over the last decade ranging from students to junior faculty supported by an NIH K24 award. Dr. Press was awarded for her mentorship with the John D. Arnold, MD Mentor Award from the Pritzker School of Medicine (2019), the Society of General Medicine’s Frederick L. Brancati Mentorship and Leadership Award (2021), and the Arthur H. Rubenstein, MD Mentor Award from the Department of Medicine (2025).
