MIRA provides support for research in an investigator's laboratory that falls within the mission of NIGMS. The goal is to increase stability and flexibility of funding to enhance scientific productivity and increase the chance of important breakthroughs.
Applicants must be Early Stage Investigators (ESI)    
Mid October Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation's Inventor Fellowship**
Supports scientist-inventors who create new tools and technologies with a high potential to accelerate progress in scientific discovery, environmental conservation, and patient care.
Faculty who are no more than ten years past receiving their terminal degree    
Mid January McKnight Scholar Awards
Given to exceptional young scientists who are in the early stages of establishing an independent laboratory and research career that will have an important impact on the study of the brain.

Early June Mallinckrodt Grants**
Funds are designed to provide early-stage biomedical investigators who are engaged in basic and translational research with start-up support to move the project forward to the point where R01 or other independent funding can be obtained.
Applicant (1) is in the first four years of his/her tenure-track appointment and (2) has not received an NIH R01.    
Mid July Burroughts Wellcome Fund Investigators in the Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease (PATH)
The goal of the program is to provide opportunities for accomplished investigators to study what happens at the point where the systems of humans and potentially infectious agents connect.
