Assisting scientific and medical discoveries
Our scientists pursue the discovery of new knowledge through basic, translational, and clinical research. We support original inquiry by providing faculty with in-house resources to aid in their research endeavors, information on funding opportunities, and strategic partnerships with other institutions.

We have invested heavily in developing and maintaining strong core facilities in support of our research. To learn more about available facilities, please visit the Office of Shared Research Facilities.
Additionally, we and our partners in the Chicago Biomedical Consortium, Northwestern University and the University of Illinois at Chicago, have agreed to allow open access to each other's core facilities. Open access allows researchers at each university to use core facilities at partner universities at the same pricing and availability as researchers at the host institution. Besides a cost savings to researchers, the initiative increases the number of facilities available to researchers as well as boosting use and efficiency of facility operations.
Individual cores can elect to opt out of this agreement, so please check with a core in advance to confirm participation. You may view a list of facilities at Northwestern University and the University of Illinois at Chicago by visiting their core facilities pages.
