Katie Pizer named Executive Director of Research and Grants Administration

The Executive Director is a new position created to work with BSD executive leadership on building organizational capabilities for grant administration.

Katie Pizer has been named as the new Executive Director of Research and Grants Administration for the Biological Sciences Division, effective July 1, 2023.

The Executive Director is a new position created to work with BSD executive leadership on building organizational capabilities for grant administration. While reporting to the BSD Vice Dean of Academic Administration and Finance, Katie will develop division-wide grant administration policies, goals, and operating plans. She will provide leadership and development to pre- and post-award staff across all BSD units, including Basic Science Departments, Clinical Departments, Centers, and Institutes, and build and lead a central pool of pre- and post-award professionals available to units as needed.  

During her time at UChicago, Katie has focused on being a collaborative and supportive leader in research administration with a strong commitment to provide high-level customer service to the faculty. She is a certified research administrator who began her career at UChicago in 2006, working in the University Research Administration (URA) office. Since 2007, she has held various roles within the BSD, including the past nine years as the Director of Pre- and Post-Award Administration for the Department of Medicine, where she oversees research administration for five clinical departments. In addition, for the past three years, Katie has served as the Director of Finance and Administration for the Medical Imaging and Data Resource Center (MIDRC) in the Department of Radiology. In this capacity, she provides administrative, finance, and strategic support to the center’s seven PIs and more than 20 subsites.
