The University of Chicago has received an Institutional Research and Career Development Award (IRACDA) from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support postdoctoral scholars interested in developing their research and teaching skills. The program, led by Nancy Schwartz, PhD, Dean of Postdoctoral Affairs in the Biological Sciences Division (BSD), provides fellows with 3 years of support to conduct research in a biomedical or behavioral science lab at UChicago, as well as gain valuable experience teaching at nearby partner institutions, including Chicago State University and Northeastern Illinois University.
Starting in Summer 2023, IRACDA Scholars will work with a Research Mentor at UChicago for the first year of the program. Fellows are then matched with a Faculty Teaching Mentor at one of the partner institutions based on scientific interest. IRACDA fellows will devote 75% of their time in the program to research, and 25% to pedagogy. Scholars will receive additional professional development training through the BSD Postdoc Office (PDO) and will have access to a wide variety of professional development opportunities at the University of Chicago.
