The visual impact of the Joseph Regenstein Library is hard to overstate. Constructed in 1970 to host the most extensive collection of print media on-campus while also “reducing the impression of great size,” the Regenstein is both a massive feature of UChicago’s campus and an innovative example of brutalist architecture. The layered limestone building is sectioned into three “slipped segments,” which camouflage the building's overall size to those walking past. While university libraries are a foundational resource for students and faculty, their offerings for staff are often understated, including many services available to those of us in the BSD.

Within the Regenstein library, BSD Staff has access to the TechBar, Special Collections Resource Center, and a host of regularly scheduled events to engage in personal interest and professional development. BSD Staff have borrowing privileges at the library and only need to bring along their UChicago ID to take advantage of the university’s seven floors of print, digital, and artistic media. Visit room 370 to explore one of the largest university map libraries in North America and grab a coffee at the student-run Ex Libris Café.
