Shannon Elf, PhD, Assistant Professor of Ben May Department of Cancer Research, has received a three-year, $225,000 Medical Research Award from the Gabrielle's Angel Foundation for Cancer Research, one of six awards given by the Foundation to top junior investigators.
Elf received the award for her project to understand why, among the two types of calreticulin (CALR) mutations found in myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) patients, only one type causes myelofibrosis, the most deadly and difficult to treat disease among the three MPN types. This in turn will help her uncover new therapeutic options for CALR-mutated myelofibrosis.
