The Biological Sciences Division Chicago Fellows Program is an internationally competitive postdoctoral fellowship program supporting the career advancement of exceptional and creative postdoctoral scientists. This year, we are pleased to announce that three fellowships have been awarded to the following early-career researchers from the 2023 summer cycle competition:
CHICAGO FELLOWS
- Matteo Fabbri joined the Department of Organismal Biology & Anatomy this summer after completing his Ph.D. in Earth and Planetary Sciences at Yale University in 2021, and two years of postdoctoral work at the Field Museum of Natural History here in Chicago. Under the mentorship of Neil Shubin, Matteo will be working to connect phenotypic changes that occur during evolution with the underlying genetic activity using the Devonian vertebrate land-to-water transition as a model system.
- Yuhang Fan will be joining the Department of Chemistry this fall after completing his Ph.D in Bioengineering from Stanford University. Under the mentorship of Chuan He, he will be building on his doctoral work in spatial transcriptomics by developing a spatial RNA m6A profiling method, which will enable a deeper understanding of the role of m6A in coordinating gene expression and cell fate across tissues.
- Sarah Paramore will be joining the Departments of Molecular Genetics & Cell Biology and Organismal Biology & Anatomy under the mentorship of Sally Horne-Badovinac and Victoria Prince after completing her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Princeton University this fall. Her work will combine the Horne-Badovinac Lab’s expertise in collective cell migration with the Prince Lab’s expertise in zebra fish development to determine the molecular mechanisms underlying the translation of directional cues into motility during development.
We congratulate the Fellows, and their faculty mentors, for this recognition, and welcome them to the University of Chicago.
