Applications for Chicago Fellows winter 2023 cycle now open

The Chicago Fellows Program is designed to enable BSD faculty to recruit postdoctoral scientists to UChicago, offering a competitive stipend supported by the Division.

We are pleased to announce that the Chicago Fellows program is now accepting applications for a December 22, 2023, deadline. This program is designed to enable BSD faculty to recruit postdoctoral scientists to the University of Chicago, offering a competitive stipend supported by the Division.

The program seeks highly qualified postdoctoral candidates who have either recently completed the PhD or MD degree (within the past three years) or will have received their doctoral degree by the time they propose to begin the fellowship. Individuals already holding paid postdoctoral positions at the University of Chicago are not eligible for nomination unless they started their postdoctoral position September 1, 2023, or later.

The fellowship is designed to attract new talent to come to the University and work in the laboratory of a BSD faculty member. As such, an essential part of all applications is a letter of sponsorship from the BSD faculty member with whom the applicant proposes to work, outlining the research program the candidate will complete over a two-year funding period in their laboratory. We would encourage you to reach out to peer institutions and to mention this opportunity in any presentations you give so that we can identify candidates for this highly competitive program.

We seek a diverse pool of applicants who wish to join an academic community that places the highest value on rigorous inquiry and encourages diverse perspectives, experiences, groups of individuals, and ideas to inform and stimulate intellectual challenge, engagement, and exchange. The University’s Statements on Diversity can be found here.

The stipend for 2024 Fellows will be $64,000 per annum, with a $10,000 research budget. We expect to fund 2 to 3 new fellows from this call. The Duchossois Family Institute may fund 1-2 additional fellow(s) in research area(s) related to how the microbiome and commensal microbes impact inflammatory and immune-mediated diseases and contribute to resistance to infectious diseases.

All applications will be reviewed by a committee of faculty members representing a wide range of disciplines. Awards are usually announced ~2 months after the application deadline every year.
