Ruth Anne Eatock steps down as Dean for Faculty Affairs

Dr. Eatock is returning to her primary faculty role to devote more time to research and other academic activities.

Ruth Anne Eatock, Ph.D., Professor of Neurobiology, is stepping down as Dean of Faculty Affairs to return to her primary role as a member of the faculty in the Department of Neurobiology and the Neuroscience Institute and devote more time to her research and other academic activities.

Since assuming her leadership role in the Dean’s office in 2016, Eatock has made numerous important contributions to faculty development, partnering with other offices and local faculty and staff experts to advise faculty on grantsmanship, effective communication, and mentoring of trainees.  Her vigorous support of junior faculty moving toward tenure included her leadership of the Advisory Committee on Academic Promotion (ACAP). She also led initiatives to increase external recognition of our faculty’s academic contributions via the Committee on Faculty Award Nominations (CFAN).

She will now focus on running a leading laboratory on inner ear physiology, mentoring and teaching the next generation of students and postdoctoral scholars, and will continue to contribute to the rich intellectual environment at the BSD and the University at large.

The BSD will be seeking nominations for a successor. Details outlining the process will be forthcoming in the following weeks.
