Endocrinologist Stephen O'Rahilly to give 2023 Andros Lecture

O'Rahilly's research focuses on the etiology and pathophysiology of human metabolic and endocrine disease.

The George and Marie Andros Lectureship was established by George Andros, M.D. ’60, and Marie Andros in January of 1989 to provide a unique forum for the exchange of perspectives at the intersection of biology, medicine, and society. Lectures are highly topical and have featured speakers from a broad range of subject areas.

The last Andros Lecture in 2019 featured Dr. Bonnie Bassler, Squibb Professor and Chair of the Department of Molecular Biology at Princeton University, whose research focuses on the molecular mechanisms that bacteria use for intercellular communication.

This year’s Andros Lecture, entitled “Adventures in Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Behaviour,” will be given by Professor Sir Stephen O’Rahilly, MD, FRS, FMedSc, on Tuesday, April 25 at 4pm in the Knapp Center for Biomedical Discovery (900 E 57th St), Auditorium 1103, with reception to follow. Professor O’Rahilly is Co-Director of the Wellcome-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science and Director of the MRC Metabolic Diseases Unit at the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on the etiology and pathophysiology of human metabolic and endocrine disease and how such information might be used to improve the diagnosis, therapy, and prevention of these diseases.
